Changi Airport Group (CAG) Aviation Security Unit Internship
Internship with the Aviation Security Unit from 1st April to 31st August 2024, and subsequently employed as a contract staff from 1st September to 11th October 2024
Responsibilities
During my internship, I assisted in conducting quality control checks on the security functions across the terminals at Changi Airport. I supported the operations team in operational readiness activities and testing, including participation in Red Teaming exercises. Additionally, I had the opportunity to contribute to various security system projects and trials.
Beyond operational responsibilities, I also supported the unit with administrative tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.​​

Towards the end of my internship, I was offered an opportunity to stay on as contract staff to continue supporting ongoing security projects and system trials prior to returning to school for the new academic semester.
During this period, I also took on the role of onboarding and training the new intern, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities and continuity of ongoing trials and operational tasks.

Experiences Gained
Understanding of Aviation Security Operations:
Through my internship, I developed an in-depth understanding of how security is implemented at Changi Airport. I gained insight into the various systems, protocols, and stakeholders involved in ensuring that flights departing from Changi are safe and secure.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
By participating in different operations and projects, I observed how various departments within the organisation collaborate and align their efforts towards a common objective. This experience highlighted the importance of interdepartmental coordination in maintaining efficient airport operations.

Balancing Security and Facilitation:
I gained a deeper appreciation for the delicate balance between maintaining stringent security measures and ensuring a seamless passenger experience. The internship exposed me to how the airport safeguards passengers, staff, and aircraft while preserving operational efficiency and service excellence.

Professional Networking:
Throughout my internship, I built meaningful professional relationships within the Aviation Security Unit and with personnel from our security partner, Certis. These interactions allowed me to expand my professional network within the aviation security sector while gaining valuable insights from experienced industry professionals.
